In the Saddle a bit

Saturday 9/28/2013 Part 2

Let me begin a bit off topic -- with a list:

Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, Marie Curie, William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei, John Stuart Mill, Germaine De Stael, Thomas Jefferson.

Susan was curious of who the 12 great thinkers are that are honored at the campus. During our shakedown ride yesterday afternoon, to make sure our bikes were of good fit (mine of course was not), I added some miles to ride back over to the campus to get the list.

Whenever I have used a bike from the outfitter I have run into similar issues. I fill out the form with my measurements and answer all their questions. They see my age and figure I need a certain kind of bike. I dutifully try it out and come back asking for adjustments or a trade. This time was no different -- I was assigned to a cramped, too upright bike that was more accommodating to an older rider who does not ride much. Fortunately someone had canceled out of the trip and I could get a different bike that felt oh so much better!

Our leaders prepare our bikes

Once our bikes were in order we rode to the trail for a test.

We had an introductions meeting before dinner, then drove up the canyon to a restaurant for dinner. My filet mignon was melt in your mouth perfect! Thus ended our Saturday.

  1. Yes, I remember you always have problems with the bikes assigned to you. I am really glad that someone cancelled out and you have a much better bike.
That filet mignon sounded awfully yummy.
    Wishing you a great trip.
